Our trips in the United Kingdom

Beautiful Lake District New Forest Donkey Hampshire Swan and Signets
We will soon be bringing you tales of our adventures throughout the UK and adding the wild-camping spots we find along the way , but keep these a secret as we all like to have the independence to stop were we chose be it a seclude woodland or beach as in the picture above. Just remember to remove all your rubbish and be prepared to move on if asked to do so , we have found that many a local rural pub is only too happy to let you stay in his car park overnight if you have eaten in his pub not forgetting tasted his fine Beer.
Update 25/05/2008- While the united kingdom is a beautiful place to visit it is becoming increasingly closed off to motorhomes of all sizes due to the influx of "Travellers" invading private land and leaving all there rubbish and associated waste, the end result being the introduction of Height barriers spoiling what was a beautiful quite place into a no go zone for campers. What was a nice weekend away visiting the local hills for a walk and stopping over night in the secluded car park removing all trace of our visit is now a thing of the past as they expect us to park on a busy campsite and catch a bus when available to these places . The only areas of the UK still without restrictions are the wild spots of Wales and Scotland and the National trust owned property, make the most while it lasts.

Rural Britain
When visiting most towns these days you need to find the local park and ride and hope the access is for large vehicles as the councils see fit to call it a "car park" meaning a vehicle of a small size 6.6ft by 14ft not a "normal " everyday vehicle as even the large 4x4 and mpv`s have problems parking. We have found a few that let you use the coach parks but most say NO and you must pay twice for a large double spot why can't we adopt the European attitude and acknowledge that campers bring a much needed revenue to these towns and all they require is a safe place to park to enjoy the attractions .
We are finding that most country pubs with a large car park are willing to let you stay overnight for free if you buy food/beer which is a fare trade we think, and we are trying to encourage people to use this facility as it makes for freedom of movement for which campers are designed not parked up for days on end in a caravan site- but each to his own just let us make our own choices.
The counties we have visited and found to be friendly are Devon , Dorset , Wiltshire , east/west Sussex , Gloucestershire in the south , Cornwall being the worst as it has few parking for campers and has a near total exclusion on dogs for the beaches and is very busy the exception being the world famous Eden Project which is well worth visiting. In the north the Pennines and Lake district are okay except the busy tourist spots with even a few hidden free camping spots away from built up populated areas, to experience true freedom better to head to the Welsh west coast opposite Ireland and the Border counties of Dumfries and Northumberland, and not forgetting Scotland but watch out for the we midges worst in May to July with September/ October being the best months.
For a short pleasant weekend break why not use the CL and CCC small site network many being next to pathways and small idyllic villages great for a rest from modern stressful living.
West Country
Before visiting any part of the UK we always use the local tourist office to find out about special events and attractions in their area as this is a much under used facility provided by local councils and they even have details of local parking schemes, better to arrive informed than getting hot under the collar.
